Associations

Catholic Independent Schools Conference

The Catholic Independent Schools' Conference is an association of head teachers of Catholic independent schools. There are 140 heads in full membership of the Conference and several associate members. To be in full membership the school must be recognised as Catholic by the local bishop, and be recognised as a charitable foundation by the Charity Commission.

Girls' Schools Association

The Association represents the Heads of the leading independent girls' schools in the UK. The site includes information for parents, girls, governors, staff and others about girls' education and what girls' schools can offer.

Independent Association of Preparatory Schools

The official site of the Incorporated Association of Preparatory Schools, the prep schools heads association serving the top 500+ independent prep schools in the UK and Worldwide.

The site includes information for parents, pupils, governors, staff and others about education in preparatory schools and the services that IAPS provides. There is also a private section for members only.

Independent Schools Association

The Independent Schools Association, founded in 1879, is one of the oldest of the independent schools’ organisations and is federated to the Independent Schools Council. It exists to provide professional support to the Head teachers and to offer a wide range of sport and cultural activities to the pupils in its 290 schools.

National Bursars Association

The National Bursars Association is the country's leading professional group of Bursars and administrators for all schools and provides professional support to its members and seeks to enhance the effectiveness of the schools in which its members serve. The Association grew from the amalgamation of a number of bursarial associations, and now represents many hundreds of members in schools, the majority of which are in the maintained sector.

The Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference (HMC)

The Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference (HMC) represents the Heads of some 250 leading independent schools in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. HMC has a further 60 or so international members, up to 30 additional members (Heads of maintained schools in the UK), and 40 Honorary Associate members (retired members). HMC exists to serve and support its members, to represent their views and to exemplify excellence in education.

Society of Heads of Independent Schools

The Society is an Association of Headmasters and Headmistresses of just over 100 well-established Independent schools. It is one of the constituent organisations of the Independent Schools Council. SHMIS was formed in 1961 when a group of Heads decided they needed a forum in which to share ideas and experience. Since then the Society has grown substantially in size, reputation and effectiveness. SHMIS now represents schools of all sizes throughout the country with a couple of valued overseas members. Many SHMIS schools have a boarding tradition; a number are at the leading edge of education in music, dance and the arts; and several are well-known for their effective support for those with learning difficulties. Care for the individual child is at the heart of all SHMIS schools and the Society itself provides a supportive network for its member Heads.
